For some of the articles on the Home Page I'd like to just be able to click on the featured image and go directly to a website (the magazine article) without having to go through the portfolio page. Can this be done without using a separate plug-in?

You can do this by setting the options below, this way you will be redirected to an external site when clicking on the image.
