Hello! I´am contacting you on behalf of Gina Morano, My name is Miguel, I´am helping her to set up her Wordpress website, I recommended her to buy the Oxygen Theme, I don't have experience working the themes, but this theme is really nice, is not that difficult to work around it.
The Reason I am contacting is about the update, what I want to do is install the demo content, at this moment I have it on the domain name www.pinktomatoskincare.com, but im just trying to see what I can do, or how to replace the content.
In about a week I am going to star her website using this theme, so my question is from one to ten, how important is to create a child-theme, and if is important, is there a steep by steep on how to do it, since the documentation of the theme only focus on the theme it self and not a child-theme.
Second question, if I only replace the contents meaning, changing the pictures, change some text. But when the theme get updated will it overwrite the pictures, text, etc. I was gonna change some of the codes, but I don't want to mess it up.

1— About 90% of the clients don't use Child Theme. Child Theme is used only for "power-users" who want to customize core theme files and add their code there. In this way they don't worry if the update of the theme will replace their edited code modifications with the original theme files.
If you don't want to do theme files modification, you don't need to use Child Theme.
2— Theme Updates don't change any option that you have selected on the Theme Options, Wordpress itself, text or your CSS edits that you can place on our Custom CSS area.
In some very rare cases we can change any element and you must re-edit some little lines of your CSS code (if you use CSS on your site).
