Google Fonts used without intention

Hey, sorry to bother again …

As privacy rules are a big deal here in Germany I use self-hosted fonts on my websites. In this case Roboto and Roboto Condensed. Nonetheless if I activate Slider Revolution plugin (where I use Roboto in some slides) the website connects to Google Fonts API without my intention. I have set Slider Rev to use locally-loaded fonts. The plugin not only loads Roboto but as well loads MaterialIcons (I am not aware to use these somewhere …)

As the plugin comes bundled with Kalium, the developers pointed me to contact you in this case.

My Cookie plugin shows that no connection to Google API is made when I deactivate the Slider Rev plugin.

Do you have a clue what goes wrong here?

    Thanks & regards, Till

    Hi again,

We’re really sorry you’re being routed back and forth, but this is clearly an issue with Slider Revolution. It’s a bit surprising their support redirected you since the problem is directly related to the plugin, not the theme. As you mentioned, the issue disappears when Slider Revolution is deactivated, which confirms that the plugin is making the connection to Google Fonts.

We recommend following up with Slider Revolution’s support again, as they should be able to resolve this for you. I saw that you already have the fonts to load locally, which I did again and pre-cached them so you can run a test again.

    Best regards,
    Laborator Team

Hey Art, this is what Themepunch replied:

    ThemePunch Support Message
There is a new comment from Irfan Ansari in the support ticket Cookie scanner detects Google fonts link
Please reach out to your theme support and ask them to open support ticket on your behalf so tech support team can checked it asap.

Alternatively, you can purchase a separate license for the plugin from https://sliderrevolution.com/ and open a support ticket at https://support.sliderrevolution.com and Our tech support team will be more than happy to help you there.

    Best regards,

    Irfan Ansari

I am lost ;-) Is there a way you can open a support ticket on my behalf? Actually I find it a bit ignorant by them to expect me to buy a license to be able to address a problem with their plugin … I would really appreciate if you find a way to help me :-)

    Regards, Till

    Hi Till,

I’ve checked the issue, and even if the theme is switched to a default WordPress theme, the problem still persists. This means it’s not theme-related, but more likely tied to the plugin itself.

The fonts are already set up locally on your site using the method mentioned in this article: Host Google Fonts Locally to Avoid GDPR Issues.

However, the issue you’re experiencing is that the Google Fonts are only visible when you’re logged in, not when viewing the site privately. This is why the plugin thinks the fonts are being loaded from Google Fonts, but they actually aren’t.

Unfortunately, there’s not much more we can do from our side to resolve this. I’d recommend reaching out to Slider Revolution support directly for further assistance.

    Best regards,
    Laborator Team
