Portfolio thumbnail settings

    Hello,

I haven't find any solution on the Kalium theme documentation to the following problem :

In a portfolio grid item, when hovering over a thumbnail image, I'd like a custom video to start playing, replacing the thumbnail image, with the video looping until the hovering ends.

I understand how to set up a video as a thumbnail and make it loop, but I don't want it to autoplay, or having to click on it to start the playing. Instead, I would like the video to start playing and looping only when hovering over it.

How can I achieve that, as seen on some of your demo themes?

    Thanks for your help,

    Laurent

    Hi Laurent,

As far as I know there is no Kalium feature that will autoplay videos on hover, can you please point out to the demo where you have seen this? This feature requires custom code such as custom JS.

    Best regards,
    Laborator Team

Hi Art, thanks for your quick response.

Maybe the website where I saw this feature wasn't a demo site then.

So in order to understand how the theme works for speed optimization purposes, I was wondering what happens when loading a page with a portfolio grid full of autoplaying video thumbnails. Will the thumbnail videos load only after the rest of the page (including the still featured images of the portfolio grid) is displayed? That way, users would have something to look at if the loading of the thumbnail videos takes a long time.

Please let me know if it works this way, thank you very much for your help!

    Hi Laurent,

In a grid with autoplaying videos, the last item that will be loaded is the video because they do have some featured cover images that will preload so the placeholder where the video is placed won't show empty, after they have loaded properly the video will start playing.

    Best regards,
