video background images on ipad

    Hi,

I found kind of a bug about video background images on ipads with safari.

Basically, when I click on a thumbnail in order to run a video, with all the other devices and browsers, a image is  loaded as background. Then clicking on the play button the video starts.

With ipads and safari, the background image appears just for a moment, then it disappears, so no background is displayed. After that, if you click on the play button the video works properly, but I think it's quite confusing for the users (because they don't  know whether the video is ready or not).

Please take into consideration that this doesn't happen if you force your ipad to show the mobile site (you can do it clicking on the aA sign which is beside the site url on safari).

I found out that this is related to the "always request desktop site" option on ipads, wich unfortunately is active by default on these devices.

How can I force the background image to be displayed?

    Thanks.

    Hi Vale,

Can you please record this procedure and send us the videos? Then I can see it and I will try to replicate the same and see if this is a Kalium theme related bug.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

sorry for the delay. Please find the video attached.

To reproduce the issue (which is what you can see on the video) you have to:

    1)use safari on ipads

2)go to the site and click on a video thumbnail whatsoever. You will see that once the video has loaded the starting image in the lightbox disappears and you get a black screen. If you click on play the video starts anyway, but this is quite confusing in my opinion.

3)if you change the safari settings and force the browser to request the mobile version of the site (you can see this also on the video attached, when I press the 'aA' symbol on the browser), the issue doesn't happen. Unfortunately the default setting for ipads using safari is to always request the desktop site.

Please let me know if it' s clear.

    Thanks.

    Kind regards

    Hi Vale,

I will assign this ticket to our main developer Arlind so he can check this problem for you.

He is very busy for the moment working for Kalium 4.0 but you should receive a reply tomorrow or on Thursday.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Hi Vale,

Our developer checked this problem and he is saying that this error is happening:

NotAllowedError: The request is not allowed by the user agent or the platform in the current context, possibly because the user denied permission.

This problem is resolved when we update the LightGallery plugin of the theme, and this can take us some time because we are working on some other big areas for the Kalium 4.0 update.

At the moment, the only possibility to play videos is affected by user play once again

    Thanks for your understanding!
