I would like to change the language of my theme but unfortunately this doesn't work. I don't want to translate the posts or something like that, I just want to translate the system itself, for example: If I click on a portfolio item, at the bottom it goes to next and previous page, but this doesn't get translated.
To translate or rename theme strings, you can do this via Loco Translateplugin. If you don't have it, please install and activate the plugin on your WordPress site.
Click "New Language" for the currently active theme (if you didn't created it yet, otherwise ignore this step). On the new language page, choose these options – Screenshot
After that, you will be redirected to the editing screen for theme translations. Before you continue with your translations make sure the current language of your site is selected – Screenshot

The changes will be applied immediately – Screenshot
Note: Translation files will be saved to wp-content/themes/{theme-name}/languages folder or global directory of theme translations: wp-content/languages/themes/ (based on your choice).
If you have saved your translations inside the theme folder, always save a backup of languages/ folder (inside the theme) when there is a new theme update. After you update the theme (languages folder will be replaced with an empty folder), just move the backup files you previously saved to the same languages directory and your changes will still be applied.
When creating a translation you will need to choose only Kalium and not child themes as in your case I can see you have chosen Kalium - Agency Theme, in the main theme (Kalium) you will see all the theme strings which can be translated.
If you cannot find it or you have difficulties then please share your site credentials here, because we need to login to your site and see this issue live. Your information is safe (private) in this thread.
To include your credentials click Insert Credentials button in the editor toolbar. (See how)

thanks for the reply.
My problem is, that these strings are not included!
the whole theme and language just has 5 strings and these are not even relevant, see attached screenshot!
