I have the Aurum theme installed on the domain informedappetite.com and for some reason, the categories that I have created for the products are not appearing in the search boxes when I want to link to them. Basically I want to have a carousel for a single product category.

You should use the Taxonomy area instead of Categories, when you add your categories to the Taxonomy area your categories will show in frontend
