When I select "Image Spacing - Default spacing" and "2 px" as "Gallery Columns Gap" (Attached screenshot) the display on Desktop is as expected, but not on mobile - there are big gaps between images on mobile devices (Android). When I select "No spacing (merged)" there are no gaps both on desktop and mobile. Thanks for any advice.

This seems to be a theme bug which I have reported and it will be fixed in the upcoming theme updates, for now I have added custom CSS to that portfolio item:
