Problems with website: white screen in backend, error with memory limit?

    Hi there,

I have been using the template "Kalium" for a long time without any major problems. But recently I have huge problems and I don't know exactly why.
The page www.rottmar.com was running smoothly and suddenly I got a white page after login. But only after loggin in. The website itself was displayed normally. Then I requested support from the host, who first made an update of wordpress. For a short time I was able to log in to the backend, but I couldn't open the plugins page in the backend – this subpage was white again. Meanwhile I get the following message after the login to wordpress:

Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 410255360) (tried to allocate 20480 bytes) in /homepages/0/d621497450/htdocs/rottmar.com/wp-includes/meta.php on line 958

The host support says that my memory limit should be sufficient for the page, but maybe one of the plugins makes the trouble.

I added the memory limit in the config.php to 256M. Now there is no fatal error showing up, but after trying to log in to the backend, there is only a white screen again.
When I go to www.rottmar.com, the wordpress menu shows up at the top. Then I can switch to the backend, but only some of the menu options are possible to use.
When I try to navigate to the plugins menu inside the backend, there is a white screen again.

Now my question: is this problem already known to you and is there anything that I can do to log in again the backend. Or which plugin might cause this problem?

Thank you in advance for the feedback.

    Kerstin

Can you please switch the theme from Kalium to another theme to see if the problem is also occurring with another theme or just with Kalium, if it is only with our theme then please share your site credentials here, because we need to login to your site and see this issue live. Hi Kerstin,

I just talked with the team and according to the developers this does not have to do anything with the theme but is completely related to the memory limit of your server, so make sure your limit is really increased, contact the support of the hosting and they will increase the memory limit.

    Hi Art,

it is strange that the site worked normally and suddenly the problems appeared.
The support of the hosting said that the memory limit should be enough for this page. The support thinks that maybe a plugin is causing this problem.
How much memory limit do you think is needed?

    Kind regards,
    Kerstin

    Hi Kerstin,

For Kalium you will need a memory limit of 128M, but the error that you're getting is from the low memory limit which you need to increase by asking the hosting company.

    Hi Art,

    thanks for your answer.
The hosting support told me the following:

"The error message ultimately says that the script was able to reserve 391 MB of memory and then wanted to reserve more memory, which did not work.
How much memory the script wants to reserve at the end is not clear at this point."

In their opinion the tarif offers more than enough memory per process for a WordPress Website and that the problems are often caused by plugins.

    Kind regards,
    Kerstin

    Hi Art,

in addition another feedback from the hosting support:
The hosting tarif shows up to 2.5 GB RAM, of which 1.25 GB are always guaranteed and PHP memory limit of 512 MB.

    Kind regards,
    Kerstin

    Hi Kerstin,

I checked the limits and they are alright, also the theme is running fine so please check your plugins as this does not have to do with the theme and it is not coming from the theme.

    Best regards,
