Google Console Error - Content Wider than Screen

    Hello,

Today I received a message from Google that Mobile Usability issues were detected for my site. More specifically, content wider than screen. I did a live test through the console and it pointed to the categories (module - image banner) I have on the home page. I've attached a screenshot of the console.

Here is general info Google shares:

    Content wider than screen

This report indicates pages where horizontal scrolling is necessary to see words and images on the page. This happens when pages use absolute values in CSS declarations, or use images designed to look best at a specific browser width (such as 980px). To fix this error, make sure the pages use relative width and position values for CSS elements, and make sure images can scale as well. Read more in Size Content to Viewport.

What do you suggest to do to make it google mobile friendly?

    Thank you,

    Johnny

    Hi Johnny,

Can you post a screenshot from your test where you have noticed the horizontal scroll so we can check it, I tested it but couldn't see the horizontal scroll on this page.

    Best regards,
    Laborator Team

    Hi Art,

The horizontal scroll works fine. Only Google says that the content on the home page is wider than the screen on mobile phones. If you go to the home page and scroll down, you'll see the different images of musical instruments. This is the column that Google refers to.

I've reattached test2.jpg from the previous post showing the test through the Google console. "Test2.jpg" shows how the column sticks out of the screen on the right side, on the googlebot smartphone. On my cellphone it looks ok, but that won't matter for google because they'll penalize the site if it's not "mobile compatible". At least that's what they say.

I've attached a screenshot of how it looks on my phone.

Perhaps we just have to adjust that column so it's less wide? What's your opinion?

    Thanks again,

    Johnny

    Hi Johnny,

The problem is that each item of these categories is set to 100% so I have to see it and inspect where exactly is that horizontal scroll appearing and try to stop that.

    Best regards,
    Laborator Team
