I am receiving error Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 504 (Gateway Timeout) for long running scripts like demo content import. I am using siteground shared hosting plan.

Probably your PHP limits are lower than Wordpress and modern themes require. For more info please carefully read this article WordPress and Kalium Server Requirements, and on this page you can find a sample email that you can send to your hosting provider too.
When your server limits are as we recommend then you can reset your Wordpress installation by using this plugin Wordpress Reset (By Matt Martz) and then activate the theme and try to install demo-content again.

I checked and system requirement meet the listed options. Other than these i added the the plugin you asked and search for all the setting options listed. They are equal or above the required values listed.
Also tell me which one is your newer theme, Aurum or Kalium?
