The featured image is always cropped from top and bottom.
Isn't there a way to just align it to top and let it crop from the bottom?

You can use default thumbnail size and then set the height that you want to be for that image
(view on a new page)
Or use original image size and this will apply your original uplaod image
(view on a new page)
