I added the plugin and configured it for Gmail settings but no luck. I'm really not sure why emails are not going through.
I used wp-smtp plugin and Gmail Smtp plugin. With the Gmail SMTP plugin, this is the error I get when I try to do a test email.

It should work with the WP SMTP, since this issue is not related to the theme but to the mail-server. Can you please share your site credentials here, because we need to login to your site and see this issue live. Your information is safe (private) in this thread.
To include your credentials click Insert Credentials button in editor toolbar. (See how)
