2— To make your Portfolio Full-width you can go to Theme Options > Portfolio Settings > Full-width Portfolio section and select > Extend portfolio container to the browser edge.

It seems that you are asking to extend the portfolio that you have added through Visual Composer by using Portfolio Items (Visual Composer elements), to do that please just watch this short video tutorial http://drops.laborator.co/XxnHv.
How can I get my images to be full width like this site? also full width portfolio tiles like here http://www.kindredesign.com.au/work/#copy

Thanks that worked, however the portfolio will not extend out - when I follow your 2. instruction it only produces this (please see screen shot).
See where the categories are cut off and the images do not extend?
