I have installed the Agency Demo for my Portfolio and want to change the background (to just white, no rectangle). When it didnt work I saw that my PHP Version (5.5.38) might be too old to show those changes, now I am not sure if Kalium is also compatible with PHP 7 oder only 5.6? Or did I do something wrong and maybe have to change the background elsewhere (not at the Theme Styling).

As you can see from our server requirements, Kalium is compatible with PHP 5.6 or newer versions of PHP.
I couldn't understand what you mean with the rectangle on the background, as in the agency demo there isn't any rectangle.
Can you please send us your site URL first, so we can investigate your site and then get back to you with possible solution.
P.S. make sure you've disabled the Maintenance/Coming Soon mode
